An important announcement for all foreign residents of Miyakonojo A new residency management system is beginning! Until now, the residency information of foreign residents of Japan has been recorded through the alien registration system. This system will be abolished, and from July 9th the residency management system and Special Permanent Resident system will change dramatically. Furthermore, the Basic Resident Register Law is being amended, the structure for registering the registry of foreign residents is changing, and these changes will allow access to pertinent government services. Certificates of residence for foreign residents Special Permanent Residents and foreign residents staying in Japan longer than 90 days will have a certificate of residence created just like Japanese residents. Also, when making a change of address, the related change of address procedures will become necessary. Confirming the contents of the certificate of residence In order to confirm the contents of the certificates of residence that will be issued to foreign residents, a temporary certificate of residence will be mailed out to all registered foreign residents in the city after May 7th. The certificate of residence will be created using the contents of this official letter as a base, so please check the contents, record whether changes need to be made or not, and return the enclosed reply envelope. Issuance of Resident Card Special Permanent Residents will be issued a Special Permanent Resident Certificate. Excluding Special Permanent Residents, foreign residents who are in Japan for more than 90 days will be issued a Resident Card. Furthermore, the maximum period of stay will be extended to five years, and as a general rule holders of this card who leave Japan and come back within one year will not need to undergo procedures for a re-entry permit.
